Can you revolutionize Egyptian farming as a scientist or entrepreneur with a great idea? The AgriTech4Egypt Innovation Challenge 2024, an initiative of the CGIAR Regional Integrated Initiative, Fragility to Resilience in Central and West Asia and North Africa (F2R-CWANA) is now accepting applications.

The programme is offering innovators the opportunity to validate and deploy their climate resilient and sustainable agritech solutions in Egypt.

The challenge which is being powered by a consortium made up of  CGIAR Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP), The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, ICARDA, IWMI, and IFPRI–and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) of Egypt is has the endorsement of  the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt (MOHESR).

The programme is also supported by partners such as PRIMA, Climate Resilient Africa Fund (CRAF), ALEX BANK, Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA), and CGIAR Initiatives and units based in the MENA region.

Who is the AgriTech4Egypt Innovation Challenge For?

The Agritech Challenge is particularly designed for Egypt based agri-tech ventures in their early stages who already have a minimum viable product. Entrepreneurs should expect to receive support and preparation towards the deployment of a  solid go-to-market strategy for the Egyptian market.

AgriTech4Egypt Challenge Priority Areas

All agritech solutions are expected to align with one of the priority areas:

  • Digital agriculture and precision farming
  • Agri-finance solutions
  • Sustainable value chain development
  • Capacity building tools
  • Efficient irrigation water management

Expected Programme Benefits

  1. The agtech programme will attract global innovations to tackle Egypt’s unique agricultural challenges
  2. Supply farmers and value chain participants with practical and cost-effective solutions that can be readily implemented.
  3. Establish a conducive environment to attract investments and mitigate risks associated with technology development for innovative ventures.
  4. Enable rural communities, women, and young entrepreneurs to thrive and succeed.
  5. Ensure that actions are in line with the goals outlined in the Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy Towards 2030 and the UN (14 out of 17) Sustainable Development Goals.

Programme Guidelines

  • Applications are welcome from candidates globally; both from within and outside of Egypt
  • Only one application per person will be accepted even if you have ideas that cover other priority areas.
  • Applicants are expected to be the sole inventors and copyright holders of their solutions.
  • At least two members of the team must be proficient in English

  • Get an opportunity to test and validate your innovation with end-users for up to 6 months
  • Receive an equity-free grant of up to 300,000 EGP, provided by ASRT
  • Gain additional exposure to investors and business opportunities for your agtech business
